Creative Planting Areas

Planting is on it's way with our vertical growing experiment in the Community Garden using recycled palettes, timber and string.

After a few months of renovations and garden creation, plants are officially growing in the community garden, and we are trying out some creative upcycling!

We’ve planted a beautiful mix of flowers, vegetables and herbs within our first planter along the boundary edge of the garden.

We spaced out pallets, fixed to the planter vertically, with the aim of them being sturdy upright frames for our climbing beans.

Within the space between the pallets, we've fixed a grid of string to give our delicate little pea plants the perfect lightweight support to grab onto.

By utilizing vertical space, we're hoping to maximize our harvest and keep the veggies happy, healthy, and off the ground.

These few images show the progress over the past month creating this planting area. The aim is to have a bark chip path along the front with easy access to the plants, as well as the climbing frame along the rear side of the planter which is easily accessed from the grass path on the other side.
